Chelsea
Frames believes that every object or piece of artwork that passes in and
out of it's doors is precious to it's owner and should be treated with
respect.
Acid-free backing, acid-free 'rag' museum matboard, and UV glazing are
standard materials used. Because of our high volume and storage
capacity, Chelsea Frames is able to offer these higher end materials at
a reasonable cost. In a recent survey conducted by Decor
magazine, our prices fell at or below the national average for a
standard 16"x20" framing project. This puts us at a very
competitive edge for Manhattan. We believe in taking the time to explain
to our clients the benefits of using these materials to preserve and
protect their artwork. This, we believe, will result in a long-term
relationship with our clientele.
Our studio is known for it's Gallery line of frames. Made of specially
milled hardwoods, these reflect current and enduring trends in framing.
Most woods are native to North America. They include maple, wenge,
rosewood, cherry, ash, oak and walnut. We also carry Honduras mahogany,
basswood, birdseye maple and purple heart, to name a few. These are
specially milled for our studio. Employing 'Old World' techniques unique
to our shop, the frames are hand-finished with natural dyes, inks and
then waxes.
Chelsea
Frames carries all well-known lines such as Roma,
Nurre Caxton and
Nielsen Metal, and we are proud to be a Larson Juhl partner (as seen in Architectural
Digest, Condé Nast House and Home and other design
magazines). We also collaborate with many local, national and
international artisans for hand crafted frames. Our suppliers are
eco-conscious and purchase their wood from countries who
re-forest. We carry Tru Vue matboards and glass, and Cyro acrylics.
These products include many specialty items such as museum glass, museum
plexi and Ultra Clear (super-white with UV protection). With more
than 5000 corner samples in the shop, we also carry catalogues and can
purchase any molding offered in the U.S. market. For the last three
years, we have served as consultants at SACA, the European framing fair
held in Bologna, Italy, to help distinguish U.S. market trends.
In the last few years, we have become well known for oversized pieces
and mirrors. In many cases we have had fabrics or matboard imported or
specially milled to fill our clients' needs.
